Accessibility Statement
Last updated: August 2026
Our Commitment
MapQueue is committed to being accessible to people with disabilities. We continuously work to improve accessibility across our app and website.
WCAG 2.1 AA Compliance Efforts
We have implemented the following accessibility features:
Visual Design
✅ Color Contrast: All text and interactive elements meet WCAG AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
✅ Dark Mode: Full dark theme support for users with light sensitivity
✅ Text Scaling: App supports device-level text size adjustments (no fixed font sizes)
✅ Color Blind Friendly: Navigation uses icons + text, not color alone
Interaction
✅ Touch Targets: All buttons and interactive elements are at least 48×48 logical points (iOS/Android standards)
✅ Touch Feedback: Visual and haptic feedback on button press
✅ Long Tap Support: All actions available via long-press gesture in addition to tap
Screen Reader Support
✅ VoiceOver (iOS): All elements properly labeled with accessibilityLabel
✅ TalkBack (Android): Full screen reader compatibility
✅ Semantic Structure: Navigation and content organized logically for assistive technologies
Navigation & Wayfinding
✅ Clear Hierarchy: Main navigation, sections, and content clearly organized
✅ Skip Links: Navigation UI allows focus on map content quickly
✅ Consistent Layout: Navigation and controls in same locations across screens
Voice Features
✅ Voice Navigation: Turn-by-turn directions available via text-to-speech
✅ Voice Search: Hands-free address search using device microphone
✅ Spoken Hazard Alerts: Road hazards announced via audio
Known Accessibility Limitations
We are aware of the following limitations and are actively working to improve them:
1. Map Gestures
Issue: Pinch-to-zoom, rotate, and tilt require multi-touch gestures
Workaround: Zoom controls available via buttons. Rotation handled automatically during turn navigation
Status: Investigating keyboard/voice alternatives (planned for future release)
2. Location Services Dependency
Issue: Core features (navigation, hazard reporting) require device location access
Limitation: Users who cannot enable location services cannot use navigation features
Accessibility: Hazard reports can be submitted by nearby users if you share a general area
3. Voice Direction Timing
Issue: Audible directions timed for driving speed; may not align with pedestrian pace
Recommendation: Use with caution at walking speeds; enable visual map alongside
4. Map Annotation Labels
Issue: Small text labels on map (street names, POIs) may be hard to read at default size
Workaround: Use device text scaling or zoom in on map
5. Real-Time Traffic Updates
Issue: Traffic congestion shown via color only (red/orange/green polylines)
Alternative: Road hazards and suggested alternative routes provided with text descriptions
How We Test for Accessibility
- Automated testing: Axe accessibility scanner
- Manual testing: iOS VoiceOver and Android TalkBack
- User testing: Regular feedback from users with disabilities
- Color contrast validation: WCAG AA compliance checker
